5-Day Remote Tribes & Wildlife Adventure

Explore the best of Tanzania on this 5-day adventure that offers you the chance to see some of Africa’s greatest wildlife while also visiting one of the few remaining bushmen tribes to walk the earth. The journey will cover the country’s Northern Safari Circuit, taking you to the Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks, Lake Eyasi and Lake Natron. Search for the magnificent big five, traverse the ever changing landscapes and learn about the traditional ways of life of three of the country’s unique cultures that have been frozen in time. Arusha - Tarangire National Park - Karatu

You will be picked up from the airport or your hotel around 7:30am and driven to Tarangire National Park. You will enjoy a day long game-drive, giving you ample opportunity to see as many animals as you can. The park is home to the rare fringe-eared oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk. The swampy areas in the south of the reserve often have wallowing elephants and buffalo and you also may see the the Silale Swamp lion pride or some wild dogs. You will have a packed lunch at one of the picnic sites before continuing with your afternoon game-drive. Later you will head to Karatu to your lodge for the evening, where you will enjoy a delicious dinner.

Karatu - Ngorongoro Crater - Karatu

After an early breakfast, you will make your way to the famous Ngorongoro Crater. You will descend down the steep crater walls into one of the most pristine wildlife havens in the wolrd, offering you some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa. All the major safari animals you may wish to see, occur in great numbers, including the mighty big five. There is a population of the endangered black rhino in the reserve which is always a crowd favourite and the crater is one of the only places they can be seen in Tanzania. Lake Magadi is also home to large flocks of flamingos which offer a unique and interesting sighting. You will have lunch at the picnic site and then enjoy some more afternoon game viewing before returning to your lodge for dinner and drinks.

Karatu - Lake Eyasi (Bushmen & Blacksmith Experience) - Karatu

After yet another early breakfast, you will depart for the first village you will be visiting, home to the Hadzabe, one of the last hunter-gatherer tribes. Here you will have a chance to learn about their way of life, how they survive using their ancient foraging techniques and witness their famed animal tracking skills. You will also see how they make their natural poisons which aid them in their hunting. Later you will visit the Datoga, who are a local blacksmithing tribe. You will visit their homestead, see how they melt metal, learn about their medicinal plants and begin to understand their simple yet sophisticated existence. After a full day of culture, you will return to your lodge in Karatu for another relaxing evening and a hearty dinner.

Karatu - Lake Manyara National Park & Maasai Village Experience - Lake Natron

You will make your way from your lodge to Lake Manyara National Park in the morning. This magnificent park is known for its large elephant population, offering spectacular sightings of these giants. The big cats are also present and if you are lucky, you will get to see them. The forest region of the reserve is home to troops of olive baboon and blue monkey which are always enjoyable to see. After some lunch, you will leave the park and make your way to a Maasai village. Here you will get the chance to see these amazing people, arguably Tanzania’s most famous tribe with their bright red garments and their impressive jumping dance. After learning about some of the traditions they live by and catching a glimpse into their daily lives, you will head to Lake Natron for the evening.

Lake Natron - Arusha

In the morning, after your final breakfast, you will take a scenic drive along the Great Rift Valley basin that leads to the remote Maasai land’s, often not explored by tourists who visit Tanzania. Here you can enjoy a morning bush walk in Lake Natron’s surrounding landscapes, enjoying magnificent views of the lake and photographing the thousands of flamingos that frequent the soda lake. Later you will hike through a steep gorge to visit the beautiful Engaresero Waterfall and have the chance to swim in the pool below. After a wonderful final day in the pristine natural wilderness, you will make your way back to Arusha, marking the end of your trip.
